Beginning Oct. 16, 2023, B-Spec racers may begin utilizing the P205/50-15 Goodyear Eagle RS D4850, with the P205/50-15 Eagle RS-R D4851 used as a wet weather option, with those tires becoming mandatory for use in U.S. Majors Tour, Hoosier Super Tour, and Runoffs events starting Jan. 1, 2024. Along with this, Goodyear will supply trackside support, including sales, mounting, balancing, and technical support, at each stop on SCCA’s Super Tour series, including the National Championship Runoffs.
Goodyear will also support B-Spec racers through a robust contingency program specific to the class, with those details being announced soon.
Beyond that, Goodyear has locked in a manufacturer’s suggested retail price for its B-Spec tires starting Dec. 1, 2023, and running through 2026, with the Eagle RS (dry tire) having an MSRP of $199 per tire, and the Eagle RS-R (wet tire) coming with a suggested price of $210 each.
“Goodyear Racing is very excited to start a new chapter inside SCCA Road Racing as the control tire for B-Spec,” said Goodyear Tire’s Jay Chapman. “SCCA and its host of great volunteers provide a great atmosphere for competition, camaraderie, and commerce. B-Spec has been on the radar for quite some time, and with its variety of relatable cars, it is a great fit for the Goodyear Eagle RS DOT. With this partnership, we are making a commitment to not only B-Spec, but to all of our current and future clients that Goodyear Racing continues to move forward with the SCCA.”
Since joining the SCCA Road Racing program in 2013, B-Spec has grown from one of the least subscribed to classes to one of the most popular. In 2023 U.S. Majors Tour competition, B-Spec ranked fourth in overall participation, trailing only Spec Miata, Spec Racer Ford Gen3, and Super Touring Lite. B-Spec’s move to the Goodyear Eagle RS and RS-R helps guarantee that the strong, close racing that formed the foundation of the class will continue.
“Goodyear has been a fixture in the SCCA Road Racing paddock for years, providing support not only for its customers, but the events themselves,” said SCCA Vice President of Road Racing Eric Prill. “Goodyear will make a great partner for the B-Spec community of racers and the SCCA as a whole.”
While use of the Goodyear Eagle RS and RS-R tires will be allowed starting this month across all SCCA Road Racing programs, B-Spec Goodyear tires will be mandatory for use in U.S. Majors Tour, Hoosier Super Tour, and Runoffs events from 2024 through 2026. B-Spec competitors may continue to run the 2023-spec Hankook Z214 dry and Z217 wet tires in Regional racing events until July 1, 2024, at which point they will be required to run the approved B-Spec Goodyears.
